All better…sort of

25 Aug

I am happy to report that the girls are back to their normal wild and crazy selves. Hadley’s bouts of vomiting continued on into the evening and eventually she did fall asleep with a bucket right by her face…just in case. She did wake up at about 4am to use the restroom and then insisted she wasn’t “sweepy at aaawwwww!”

I said yeah, right and sent her back to bed. In the four minutes it took to get her back into her bed, I think she told me she wasn’t sleepy about one billion times. It was a lovely scene for the wee hours of the morning. About fifteen minutes later, I rolled over in bed to see her little face inches from mine with her chin resting on the mattress and her eyes wide staring at me. As soon as I saw her she said, “see mommy, I’m awake, and not sleepy at all.” My only response to her was to lift the blanket so she could climb into bed.

She fell asleep faster than I did. I then awoke in the morning to her sitting up in bed proclaiming, “Look out the windows!!!! It is sunny in daddy’s windows but on mommy’s windows it is not!” Very observant for 7am.

Then I heard Zoey yelling, “Mommy!” “Mommy!” Needless to say, I am a bit tired after all the antics yesterday night and this morning. Eric also appears to have come down with whatever the girls had. I am praying I don’t get it.

It's all fun and games until someone gets a stomach bug.

Both kids are sick. And by sick, I mean violently ill and vomiting. Eric said I can’t rip out the carpet in our living room until the basement is finished. I think that plan should change now that there are noticeable stains from Hadley drinking Kool-aid and having it make it’s way back up onto our carpet.

Hadley said repeatedly this morning, “mommy, my tummy hurts REALLY bad.” No kidding.

Zoey is lying around like a little zombie and only sits up to make sure that I am still right next to her. She has dozed off for most of the day though and Hadley is finally sleeping too. These are the days that no one warns you about before becoming a parent. So for anyone who is not yet a parent…consider yourself warned.

Transitions

22 Aug

Well, our summer is starting to wind down, and I am a little bit sad, but I am getting excited for the fall weather. Our days at the pool are getting fewer and farther between, but we have gotten Hadley’s bike out more often to just ride around and spend time outside. It is nice that the weather hasn’t been blazing hot and it has allowed us to do more outside during the daytime hours.

Today, Eric went to see a movie, so I took the girls to the park. I thought that I could just let Hadley ride her bike, but made a huge mistake. For some reason, I took them to the park that is straight uphill from our house. Silly me. As fun as it was to push Zoey in the stroller one handed, and pull Hadley on the bike uphill, I don’t think we will do that again anytime soon.

This week I also started to watch a little girl in the afternoons. She is super sweet and the girls have been loving having a little one around. I was a little worried about Zoey and how she would do having to share me, but she has been great. She shares her toys and everything.

Zoey also has a new obsession. Play doh is her all time favorite thing these days. Some days we take it away because she tries to eat it/lick it, but other days she squishes it around and puts it in the container and then takes it out again. Her vocabulary is growing and some of her words are getting clearer. She is just happy all the time, and rarely needs time outs (which I am excited about.) Zoey also has made a new best friend. Eric and my friend, Gerry, is living with us for a bit and Zoey is loving it. Every time he is around, she goes running into his arms and just gets giddy. She follows him around everywhere that she can.

Hadley has moved on to a phase in life where she likes to ask a lot of questions. She is very inquisitive about pretty much everything, and it is getting more difficult to explain some things to her. She is still obsessed with stuffed animals and anything that has to do with dogs or puppies. Hadley also is all registered to start tap and ballet lessons in a few weeks. We are going to an open house later this week to meet her teacher.
As for preschool, she is registered to start next year. I am going to savor my last year with her and spend it teaching her things that are “non-academic.” Hadley’s bible teacher said she has extremely good manners, and I think that is important.

Cleaning out the cupboards

12 Aug

Well, after day after day of having 1 million toys strewn about the house, Lindsey is cracking down and cleaning out the girls’ toy drawers.

Hadley and Zoey Belle have so many toys that have pieces missing or that they never play with, so we figured it was a good time to condense a bit. This way they will only to be able to make a smaller version of their messes.

Hadley caught on fairly quick and let Lindsey know that she was going to have to put all the animals back, because she was the one who made the mess. I wonder if she’s heard that before or not.

Zoey Belle is teething well. And by well, I mean that she has teeth pushing on her gums, but not really breaking through. This equates to lots of drooling and gnawing on things. Hopefully the rest of them come in soon and don’t put her through too much misery.

Hadley continues to let us know that turtles can live to be over 100 years old and how to count to six in Spanish. She is already too smart for her own good and it seems every day she gets a little smarter. Hopefully she can use her power for good as well as evil.

There are some new pictures of boating and going for a walk here: http://yorknewstimes.mycapture.com/mycapture/folder.asp?event=814526&CategoryID=50310

Enjoy!

VBS and Boating

10 Aug

Well, our weekend was jam packed with fun activities. We started out going to Fremont for VBS at Grandma and Papa’s church. The kids had a ton of fun and made some fun crafts. Hadley said her favorite thing was the time machine where the kids went back to the times when Jesus lived.

That evening we went back to the farm and swam, which might have been the best part of the day, since the heat was overwhelming on Saturday.

Sunday morning we had some showers and some thunderstorms, so all of us doubted if it was the best day to go boating, but sure enough, as soon as we pulled up to the lake, the clouds left and we had nothing but great weather. The girls really enjoyed themselves, as usual. Eric and I got to try wake boarding, and we did more skiing. Hadley did more tubing, and I tried to take video of that. Tried is the word that needs emphasis here. Maybe Eric can work some editing magic on my inept filming. We buried the girls in sand, made sand castles, swam, ate, and just had so much fun we can’t wait to go again.

Olympia, Camp, Duluth and more!

5 Aug

Well, we have been super busy traveling for the last two weeks. I can’t say it hasn’t been fun though. I headed out to Washington to see my little brother before his deployment to Iraq. He is set to leave either on the 7th or 8th of August and they did a ceremony for the 4,000 soldiers in Chris’ brigade that are leaving from Fort Lewis, Washington. We had a fantastic time but I did miss my kiddos and Eric.

While I was away, Eric took the girls up to Duluth to spend time with Ryan, Andrea and Avery Dickinson. They did all sorts of fun activities including going to the beach, riding bikes and just causing chaos in general. Eric and Ryan went cliff jumping as they normally do.

On Sunday I met up again with the family and we headed from Duluth over to camp. The week was really fun, and we were able to reconnect with all of our old camp friends. The girls spent time doing crafts and playing games with other kids. Hadley and Zoey Belle each were well behaved, with a few meltdowns, but nothing compared to the behaviors we saw last year. The weather was cold and rainy the whole time, so there were very few opportunities to go swimming.

After coming back, we dropped the girls in Arlington to spend the weekend with Eric’s parents. Eric and I came home to participate in the York Summer Games and our team got 2nd overall. We had a lot of fun, but it is probably the most tiring thing in the world. There are about a billion pictures that document our last few weeks, so head over to check those out.
